Summer is all about soaking up the sun, spending lazy days outdoors, exploring the city, and throwing barbecues! With the rising temperature, we usually change our eating habits in the summer as well. Barbecues, picnics, and beach bites can still be healthy and light, you just need to choose the best seasonal foods and try different cooking techniques. Watch as I talk about how to keep it healthy and stylish at your summer parties on NY1 News with Kristen Shaughnessy!
What to Serve at a Healthy Summer Party:
Roasted or Grilled Peppers: take advantage of seasonal vegetables, like peppers, and throw them on the grill and serve them on toasted bread for quick crostini, a departure from the chips and dip!
Bruschetta: a quick three ingredient snack using fresh, plump tomatoes with basil on top of crostini is a bite-size yet satisfying appetizer for your guests. Here's one of my favorite bruschetta recipes!
Light Proteins: choose lighter proteins to serve as appetizers, like shrimp or chicken, and serve them in a small and edible vessel like endive (try my lemon chicken basil endive boats recipe here!)
