Living in Italian: Marinara Sauce

Italians know how to get saucy! Marinara sauce is the quintessential staple food in every Italian kitchen. It is packed with amazing flavor and nutrition with minimal effort! This fool-proof marinara sauce with crushed tomatoes will become the base of many dishes in your cooking future! My family has a long tradition of jarring tomatoes every September, the same ones we use for marinara sauce. Marinara Sauce

 

Ingredients:

  • Crushed Tomatoes, canned

  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil

  • Crushed Garlic

  • Salt & Pepper

  • Basil

  • Pepperoncino, optional

  • Tomatoes, optional

Preparation:

  1. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add crushed garlic and heat until aromatic. Add pepperoncino if using. 

  2. Slowly pour in a can of crushed tomatoes. Stir tomatoes and lower heat to simmer for 10-15 minutes. Add chopped tomatoes for added texture. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  3. Before turn take heat, add basil. 

  4. Serve over your favorite pasta or vegetables. And enjoy!
