Summer Fancy Food Show 2016: My Picks
The annual Summer Fancy Food Show is 3 days long and nearly not enough time to see all that it offers. Each country has it own section and you can get lost in it for hours- sampling food and drink and culture from all over the world. This year Tunisia is the partner country and their olive oils are the show stoppers. Tunisia's cuisine combines Arab, Greek, French, Turkish, and Spanish influences and now the U.S market can begin to add these to their flavor profiles.
My picks this year are some fun savory snack-like foods that will reinvent what snacks can be:
1. Occelli in Foglie di Castagno by Beppino Occelli
From Farigliano Italy, he brings his decadent and "slow food" method to his cheese, butter and company philosophy. Try the Barolo cheese too.
2. ParmCrisps Mini Aged Parmesan Crisps by Kitchen Table Bakers
These are old favorites of mine to snack on or add to soups and salads! Made of pure cheese and good source of calcium!
Ever since my sister and I tried to make this in my kitchen, now I understand the alchemy and the mess! So its easier to leave the experts to do it! Try the Baby Bok Choy, Daikon and Oi. The fun part is they have a Homemade Kimchi Kit available too!
Neapolitans love taralli but the Pugliese are the real experts and this little, grainy and nutty taralli was perfectly tasty and with a healthy dose of fiber and antioxidants!
5. Sea Salt Crunchy Chickpeas by Saffron Road foods
High fiber savory snacks are always what I am looking for! Forget chips this is the new bean in town.
