Top 5 Latin Restaurants

March 1, 2016

One of my favorite things to do is explore restaurants and cafes of various cuisines.  It is a fun and delicious way to understand other cultures.  This weeks edition will be focusing on Latin American food!  From casual to more upscale, Latin American cuisine is delicious anywhere!

Nano Ecuadorian Kitchen | 691 10th Ave b/t 47th & 49th St.

As you can tell, this restaurant features delicious Ecuadorian food!  A small but cozy place, you should definitely make reservations for the food people describe as ‘truly homemade’.  Above is their famous ‘chalufan’!

Calle Ocho | 45 W 81st St.

This place is known for their amazing brunches including unlimited sangria…But don’t forget the food!  Check out this Ropa Vieja con Huevos!

Chimichurri Grill | 609 9th Ave b/t 44th & 43rd St.

Looking for an upscale Argentina steakhouse?  Be sure to check out this small gem tucked away in the busy theater district.  Definitely the place to splurge on a steak (they offer grass fed beef!) , and of course do not forget to top it with their chimichurri sauce!

Porteno Restaurant | 299 10th Ave.

Another delicious Argentinian restaurant to the list, Porteno does it right!  Their food is always incredibly fresh and they offer many fish dishes as well as steak!  This calamari salad is packed full of nutrients and delicious!

Raymi | 43 W 24th St. b/t 5th & 6th avenues

Peruvian food is usually at the top of my list for Latin American cuisine!  Tons of fresh ceviches, empanadas, arroz con mariscos!  Raymi is a beautiful atmosphere featuring a pisco bar!

My favorite is the Hamachi Tiradito with blood orange, habanero, cilantro and poppy seeds!  Fresh and delicious, it makes for a great protein packed light appetizer.
