December 9, 2015

Hanukkah begins Sunday December 6th until Monday December 14th!  Don’t feel like cooking but need the holiday essentials?  Or maybe you’ve been invited to a Hanukah dinner and don’t know what to bring your hosts? Check out this list to buy all the Hanukkah staples that put as much love into their food as you would!

Barney Greengrass | 541 Amsterdam Ave b/t 86th & 87th New York, NY

The food at Barney Greengrass is all pretty incredible but you can’t come here without trying the potato latkes…Don’t forget to serve with your choice of applesauce or as we do in my home, sour cream!

Zabars | 2245 Broadway, New York, NY

A list of great kosher food isn’t complete without mentioning the Upper West side novelty, Zabars.  Zabars has a ton of amazing food but to me, nothing beats their Matzah ball soup.  Its delicious and I swear can cure any cold!

Gefilteria | Brooklyn, NY but sold in various locations throughout the city!

Gefilte fish is a staple for Passover but is many people enjoy it for Hanukkah as well.  You really can’t beat these handcrafted small-batch gefilte fish made seasonally from the Great Lakes!  No fillers and an added bonus, they are gluten free!

Trader Joes for Kosher Wine | 3 locations throughout Manhattan

Trader Joe’s is known for many great food items but do not forget about their selection of Kosher wines!  Especially if you are on a budget, this is a great option as most wines run about $4-5 per bottle.  Below are kosher wines from Spain, the “Terrenal” with are of chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon and malbec.

It is always appropriate to have Challah bread, even if it isn’t a Jewish holiday.  While there are many great competitors for best Challah, Silver Moon Bakery really does it right!

Moishe’s Bake Shop |  115 2nd Ave New York, NY

Hanukkah is a holiday to eat lots of fried food and the delicious jelly donuts are a must, also known as  “sufganiyot”.  Check out this amazing kosher bakery that has been opened for over 40 years!
