Six Seasonal Fruits to Buy Right Now

The fruits that are bought in their natural season have highest level of vitamins and nutrients. They are also cheaper now than if out of season.  This is a great time to pick of these juicy healthy fruits for your home- add to all your meals and choose as snacks!

 

 

Apricots

These tiny jewels are great grilled, fresh and frozen to throw in smoothies- pair with feta cheese in a salad or chopped in a chutney to dress fish. Dried Apricots are great diced in a quinoa salad but stick to fresh for all the wonderful fiber!

Cherries

A drupe, meaning any fruit with a pit in it. Great source of antioxidant, cherries lowers inflammation in the body. Latest study show that compounds in cherries help you get a better sleep too.

Honeydew or Any Melon is great this time of year!

Look for honeydew melons with a creamy white or pale cream rind. You should be able to smell the melon’s aroma if it’s fully ripened. If it’s not quite ripe, let the melon sit at room temperature for a few days.

Mango

A stone fruit that is great in salads, grilled or on a stick! Great in Hawaiian recipes with Tuna Poke and macadamia nuts. Helps with reduction of kidney stones and high fiber content serves a great pre-biotic

Pineapple

The enzyme bromelain found in pineapple helps breakdown protein- so Have it after a juicy steak- also the Vitamin C content will help you absorb the iron in the steak too! Great for summer salad, grilled or as a great snack! Just stick to fresh not canned. If you can pull out a leaf it is ripe.

Berries are the highest in antioxidant with blueberries being the highest. The first garden strawberry was grown in France during the late 18th century.
