Voodoo Child at Clover Club
Named after the original Clover Club, a group of journalists who met at the Bellevue Hotel to eat, drink and be merry from 1882 until the early 1920s, this Brooklyn mainstay offers a full menu of oddly named drinks, from the Suffering Bastard (gin, Armagnac, ginger, Angostura bitters and lime) to the Magic Hour (gin, clementine and lemon juices, yellow chartreuse and champagne). But the spookiest of them all is the Voodoo Child (cachaca, lime and grapefruit juices, lilikoi syrup, honey and allspice dram). No word on whether the drink comes with a play-along voodoo doll (but we’re guessing you can bring your own). 210 Smith St., Brooklyn
Bloody Knuckle at Dutch Kills Bar
Mixing rye whiskey, Aperol, sloe gin and orange bitters, the Bloody Knuckle stands out on a drinks menu populated by Smuttynose Robust Porter beer, the Moscow Mule (lime juice, ginger syrup and vodka) and the Don Lockwood (named after the character in Singin’ in the Rain), which combines bourbon, Islay Scotch whisky, maple syrup and chocolate bitters. All this in a Long Island City bar invoking a name that sounds scarier than it is: “kils” (in New Amsterdam) was Dutch for “creek” — though make sure you’re not up this creek without a paddle (or a taxi on speed-dial, should you have one too many Bloody Knuckles). 27-24 Jackson Ave., Long Island City, Queens
Almost Everything at the Kill Bar
Times Scare New York City — home to a year-round haunted house and other spooky sights — also has Kill Bar, where nearly every drink on the menu sports a terrifying name. Our favorites (by name alone) are the Curse of the Screaming Druid (Espolon Reposado, lemon, lime and orange juices and grenadine), Dracula’s Kiss (Ciroc berry and Coca-Cola in a grenadine-swirled glass) and Black Death (vodka, Southern Comfort, blue curacao and cranberry juice). 669 Eighth Ave.
Corpse Reviver #2 at Jane
Sure, you can go for Scarlet’s Fever (pisco, rhubarb syrup, aperol, scarlet bitters and sparkling rosé) as a nod to the anti-vaxxers or the Dirty Jane (vodka with pickled green tomato) in honor of all the slutty costumes on Halloween, but the spooky drink at this refined Greenwich Village eatery is the Corpse Reviver #2 (gin, lillet blanc, combier orange and absinthe). 100 W. Dead Rabbit at the Dead Rabbit Grocery and Grog
All of the drinks served in the parlor at the Dead Rabbit Grocery and Grog are named after memorable New Yorkers (or moments in New York history), from the Bowery B’hoy (sparkling wine, lemon, mace and Dead Rabbit Orinoco bitters) to the Immigrant (nettle tea-infused Jameson Black Barrel Irish whiskey, Pernod absinthe, elderflower, lime, cucumber, fennel and Bittermens Boston Bittahs). But for Halloween flavor (and the spooky factor), we suggest Bill the Butcher (port wine, lemon, raspberry, rhubarb and Dead Rabbit Orinoco bitters) or — better yet — the namesake Dead Rabbit (quinine-infused aperitif wine, manzanilla sherry, peach, orange, chamomile and Bittermens Boston Bittahs). 30 Water St
