Party Season is set to begin! You should always bring a hostess something and that can vary depending on type of party and the hostess' taste. At the recent Crain's Taste NY event I gathered some of the tastiest treats to bring as a gift. All are in made in New York, really paid attention to their packaging!
Make My Cake Bakery- I love a business with a story and this long-standing family run Harlem business is still making the local favorite Sweet Potato Cheesecake as well as other delights like Red Velvet and German Chocolate Cake-Aliyyah Baylor calls her customers "sweeties" instead of foodies and learned everything she knows from Josephine Smith, "Ma Smith". And they are selling their frosting too.
Ovenly-Agatha Kulaga told us about her new book, Ovenly: Sweet and Salty Recipes from New York's Most Creative Bakery, while I munched on the Maple Thyme Pecans that are sold sealable bags along with Spicy Bacon Caramel Corn and Old Salties-and her chocolate chip cookies are no joke too!
Prohibition Distillery Brian Facquet of Prohibition Distillery in Roscoe, NY will show you how it is done-I mean literally, just go to his distillery and he will show you the process-I love that! Pick up his Bootlegger 21 New York Vodka or his lovely fragrant Gin-all in gorgeous bottles- your hostess will love you!
