The Art of the Soup: Assam Laksa at Rasa
Siblings Camie and Tommy Lai have worked in Malaysian restaurants in NYC since the 1990s, Camie working the front-of-house and managment and Tommy working his way up in kitchens to head chef. Opened last year, Rasa is the chance for Came and Tommy to incorporate dishes they grew up eating back home in their village, Rasa, just north of the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur.
Tommy Lai was the first Malaysian chef to win a Michelin star during his time as head chef in 2010 at Laut in Union Square. This time around at Rasa, Camie and Tommy have brought his winning dishes and perfected the recipes with their mother: Assam Laksa and Beef Rendang.
